The ATEC Team

Goal

Atec Training is committed to enabling organizations to become skilled, knowledgeable and competent in specific hazardous locations operations. This includes the installation, inspection, and maintenance of specialized Ex equipment.

Project

LNG plants turn gas into clean LNG (Liquid Nitrogen Gas), often exporting the product. LNG exporting plants must be set up to effectively and profitably responding to global commitments whilst retaining asset inventory and minimising process delays. LNG craftsmen must be trained and qualified to install and maintain new and existing Ex hazardous location equipment. Additionally, effective inspection procedures greatly reduce the risk of explosions and accidents in these critical areas.

The Challenge

The $10 billion LNG asset was built by a US-based EPC to US electrical standard, NEC 500. The plant has hazardous locations of approximately 35% across the asset. LNG assets are operated and maintained by a multifunctional work force. The EPC’s challenge was that they had no personnel trained to maintain the critically hazardous area locations.

Ex knowledge and understanding is an essential requirement for this LNG plant due to the risk of a catastrophic explosion in its hazardous area locations. Training was required for the equipment’s installation, maintenance and inspection.

Solution

Atec Training liaised with LNG plant management in order to identify skill requirements for its focus personnel. Atec’s recommendation was to initially invest in a CompEx NEC 500 Foundation Ex course. Atec then refined, developed and delivered the training program to fulfill the plant’s specific hazardous area needs.

LNG personnel with operational and maintenance core skills were trained in subsidiary skills, whilst retaining their core skills. This enabled the organization to ensure safe plant operation and also maintain specific equipment to defined IEC and NEC hazardous location standards. Following the initial training, a proposal was developed in order to deliver in-depth training for additional practitioners and engineers.

Our Approach

Atec personnel are experts in the field of hazardous locations. As industry leaders in understanding and addressing hazardous area challenges, we are committed to enabling organizations to identify and address critical safety issues. Our trainers are experienced in developing safe operating procedures and skills training for personnel. In close consultation with its customers, Atec offers rigorous and effective training solutions, each tailor-made to the skill-level requirement of personnel.

Atec’s Ex inspection reviews on-site critical area issues, identifies potential hazards and advises on current and subsequent training needs.

ATEC project teams understand that in a project, from vendors to manufacturers to clients and end-users, there are many fast moving parts and expectations from all different facets of the project. Our philosophy is to ensure that the project is managed with the utmost communication and open approach.
